Today the House begins to debate a resolution disapproving of the President's decision to escalate the war in Iraq.
A clear majority of the American people disapprove of the President, his handling of the war and his plan to send more troops over to Iraq. And although a number of Republicans are expected to vote with the House Democrats to send a message to the President, the Republican leadership in the House is still acting as a rubberstamp for the White House and trying to prevent their members from voting with House Democrats.
Today in an e-mail Governor Dean said:
We all need to speak up and remind House Republicans where the American people stand -- it's the job of Congress to represent us, and a bipartisan rejection of the White House's plan to escalate our involvement in Iraq will demonstrate just how far this president and the rest of the GOP leadership have drifted from mainstream America.
Well, you can do that by signing the petition encouraging Republicans to stand up to the White House:

It's been widely reported that the President doesn't intend to watch the House debate. It's been said that he will ignore the vote. Well the President works for us, and he shouldn't be ignoring the majority of the American people.
For too long Republican leaders in the House have refused to allow serious debate on the important issues. They've blocked votes. They've passed legislation in the wee hours of the night. They've kept a muzzle on their members - and the American people.
Well Americans voted for a new direction, and this resolution is the first step towards that new direction for Iraq.

The House is expected to vote on Friday. I know we'll all be keeping a close eye on what is happening as the debate progresses. In the Senate, Republicans blocked resolutions on the President's escalation of the war in Iraq; they were wrong. Help give House Republicans the courage to do the right thing.
